Bay Area Roleplay (FAIM) Empty Bay Area Roleplay (FAIM)

Be aware that this is specific to FAIM, a white gang. Nevertheless, is still useful for those roleplaying being from San Fierro/the Bayside.

Tony Hogan wrote:Family Affiliated Irish Mafia (FAIM) was founded in 1995 in San Fierro, San Andreas. It started out as a gang banging clique to protect white gang members from black gang members with the goal to sell drugs and make money. Later on membership spread to county jails and state prisons. The gang has the permission of the Aryan Brotherhood (AB) to sport shamrock tattoos. At times FAIM have worked closely with the AB to handle work for them on the street. On the streets, FAIM is active only in the Bay Area and doesn't have a presence in other parts of the state. The founders were Wayne Simpson, Ronald Boyle, Tony Hogan, and Eric Foley. Simpson became the most influential member out of the founders and the de facto leader. Boyle would also have influence and be the leader when Simpson was incarcerated.

Members sold drugs in the Bay Area to make their money. Simpson's father was a meth cook who worked with motorcycle clubs. FAIM would use violence in order to get payments and run away rival drug dealers. The gang's main source of bread from 2002 to 2005 was a methamphetamine ring which they operated in the Bay Area. The drugs came from Juan Carmona and Eladio Carmona, two Mexican brothers who were connected to the Sinaloa Cartel as well as to Hispanic gangs in the Bay Area. In 2004, Simpson shot and killed Christopher Munson, an Aryan Brotherhood drug dealer. Simpson and Munson were cellmates in prison in 1999. In 2005 the DEA busted the drug ring operation and arrested Simpson, as well as the Carmona brothers. Eladio Carmona became an informant in the case against Simpson and testified against him.

In 2006 and early 2007, most of the FAIM leadership responsibilities fell to Boyle because Simpson was in federal custody. Simpson and Boyle began to have problems during that period which resulted in Simpson putting out a hit on Boyle in 2007. Michael Iadanza, a member of FAIM, carried out the order by attempting to shoot Boyle outside a bar in Garcia. The hit was botched and it resulted in the accidental death of a bar patron. Boyle was not injured. When police showed up, Boyle was arrested on an unrelated warrant. Boyle refused to testify against the gang and Iadanza, instead trying to maintain his status as an active gang member and follow the gang code. During that time he was in jail. In 2009, Boyle agreed to testify, after FAIM members attacked him and tried to kill him while he was in jail.

Simpson was convicted of conspiracy and murder charges. He was sentenced to life in prison.

Other white gangs active in the Bay Area:
Aryan Brotherhood - the oldest and most powerful white gang in the state. They are active in prison and have influence in the entire state. FAIM has done work with the AB outside of prison. AB gave FAIM permission to have shamrock tattoos.
Bay Area Peckerwoods - what the whites from the Bay Area are referred to as when they're in jail or prison. Some treat it as an identity, others treat it as a gang. FAIM is an offshoot of the peckerwoods.
Nazi Low Riders - thanks to the NLR recruiting in prison, which includes members from the Bay Area, there are NLR members you can bump into on the streets or jails. Their numbers have dwindled down over the past two decades.

Character guide:

Irish-American or not?
FAIM are a bunch of self-proclaimed Irishmen. The founders are Irish-Americans who took pride in their herritage. You don't have to be a full-blooded Irish-American who can trace his roots back to Ireland, but you need to have some part Irish in your character. While there are members with last names like Donohue, Buchanan, Phillips, and Covey, there are also members with last names like Verducci, Souza, Lazarro and Schweiger. The whole rule is lax, but your character should have a close ancestor or parent who is Irish-American. The name doesn't have to be of an Irish origin, any American-sounding name would work. With that said, San Fierro is based on San Francisco which does have a big Irish history to it, way more so than other places in California, so having an Irish herritage wouldn't be far fetched and out of the ordinary.

From where?
The character needs to be from the Bay Area of San Andreas. San Fierro is the best choice since the role play on the server is based there. FAIM don't claim neighborhoods or areas. The best neighborhoods to role play being from are Garcia, Hashbury and Ocean Flats. Garcia is based on the Mission District of San Francisco, which had the biggest influx of Irish settlers in the late 1800s. Hashbury is based on the Haight-Ashbury District of San Francisco, where during the 1960s, 70% of the households were made up of European-born immigrants, and the largest number of them being of Irish descent. Ocean Flats is based on the Sunset District of San Francisco, which is called the western USA's Irish capital by some and even had an Irish gang there. Alternatively the character can be from other places considered part of the Bay Area, such as Tierra Robada County (Bayside) or Whetstone County (Angel Pine).

Age for a character:
It is advised not to make a character who is too young to blend in with the other members and participate in organized crime. It is advised not to age your character over the age of forty, because the founders of the gang are in their 40s and therefore they would be the oldest in the gang. An example for the youngest age slot with room for character development is 19-20 years old. If you wish to role play a character who is older in his 30s, that means you'll have to role play certain events and trait such as him being more experienced, possible jail or prison time, and the ability to role play someone more influential than a youngster.

Cultural background:
It doesn't matter what class the character comes from, as long as he became tied into crime. He could come from a poor background, from a middle-class background, or he could have been a well off rebel who got into trouble. But keep in mind that San Fierro isn't the poorest city in the state. As far as a look, there's the discussion of SoCal vs NorCal (which locations of San Andreas are based on). There's less of a Mexican culture influence in the Bay Area, than there is in SoCal. A white gang member is more likely to wear basketball shoes instead of chucks, jeans instead of khakis, an oversized T shirt instead of a buttoned up flannel. A lot of the whiteboys wear caps, and more specifically, caps of the Bay Area sports teams. In our case that can be the San Fierro Packers (baseball team) or the San Fierro 69ers (football team). Other sports gear like jerseys is a popular clothing choice too. White gang members from that area tend to be more clean cut and less "tatted up" like their SoCal counterparts. Bay Area Rap is culturally the most relevant music in the Bay Area so it would make sense to have grown up on artists like Mac Dre, E-40, Too $hort. With that said, it's okay to role play listening to other more general music instead, but as a whole punk rock isn't something a FAIM member would listen to.

Gangs in the area:
The Bay Area has both Sureño and Norteño presence. So unlike the whiteboys from So San, there is no predisposed alliance with Sureños like they are used to down in Los Santos. The black gangs are called turf gangs and they focus on money making. There are no Crips or Bloods. The blacks in the Bay Area are more serious and organized than their counterparts in Los Santos. This mentality transfers to jails and prisons where the KUMI 415 prison clique have a strong foothold in correctional facilities, but also on the streets. Black Guerilla Family (BGF) presence can also be felt. There's a big Asian and Asian-American population in San Fierro, which means there are Asian organized crime groups and Asian street gangs. The majority of whites aren't gang affiliated and if they end up in jail or the prison system, they identify as Bay Area Peckerwoods (sometimes called Bay Aryans). FAIM recruits those they deem close and those they deem like good soldiers. The AB has strong presence in the Bay Area and at times works closely with FAIM.

Race relations:
FAIM aren't a skinhead gang who have strong political views. They are about their race but aren't in your face about it. San Fierro is based on San Francisco, which is one of the most diverse places in California. Neighborhoods are less racially segregated like some in Los Angeles are. People from all races could have grown up together. That's why it should be more likely for your character to be able to get along with Mexicans, Blacks, and Asians, even if he is proud of his race. Swastikas aren't the most popular choice of a tattoo among FAIM members. Recently the real life FAIM gang leader condemned the use of swastikas in an interview. Racist tattoos are more subtle with an occasional "White Power" tattoo or lighting bolts worn by a member who has done prison time.

Jail and prison:
FAIM members are into crime. It's expected that at some point your character will end up in prison which. Jail is a common stop for gang members. Prison inserts a whole new mentality into a character, and if he has done time, it's important to role play the culture and effects of it well.

Nicknames:
Nicknames are less commonly used by peckerwoods in the Bay Area, compared to gangsters from other races or areas in the state, and if there's no reason to be called by a different name, other gang members will simply refer to you by your first name. Some nicknames come from variants of the person's name, where they can be called with names such as Joe Rue, Lil Nick, Matty Boy, or Mikey P. Actual nicknames (not related to a real name) used by peckerwoods in the Bay Area are either traditional or unorthodox, with examples like Woody, Shorty, Slim, Boogie, Bubba, Shovelhead, Sickness, and others. In some instances adjective nicknames are combined with first names to make up monikers such as Shady Pete, Dirty Mike, and so on. Nicknames ending in "er" which are more commonly used by Hispanic gangsters are rarely used and usually come if the peckerwood did time in prison, where he could have gained a nickname like Smasher or Soldier. All of the nicknames used as an example in this paragraph are actual nicknames by FAIM gang members and peckerwoods in the Bay Area.

FAIM symbolism:
The clothing brand Famous Stars and Straps is very often used by members; as well the brand's 'F' logo which is adopted as an official symbol of sorts. Members are also known to use shamrocks either in clothing or as tattoos. Some members have the gang's initials (FAIM) tattooed on them plainly to see or have even worn the initials on caps. Attire by the Boston Celtics can pop up because of their links to Irish culture and the shamrock. Popular words used as slogans or tattoos are "Family", "Family First" and "Infamous".
